Lala Thorpe, manager and workshop leader at Artescape, used a Giant Foldedsheet with Yuri Suzuki, a sound artist, designer and electronic musician. Lala was “inspired” to invite him following a talk at the Arts Catalyst Kosmica night…

“Kids at Artescape working on the giant folded sheet… finally dared to unwrap the beauty!! I invited Yuri Suzuki to talk to the kids about his work and demonstrate one of his designs. They all loved it… he had a thing called a Colour Chaser which followed a drawn black line and then responded to different colours drawn in its path with sound.”

Again this year, universities shared a print run of the LearnHigher Generic academic year planner 2012/13. For all those who are not studying at the universities who ordered them… we had some extras printed and have added them to our online shop.

STEM subjects visualised through drawing

The Bloodhound SSC Engineering Design sheets have been put to good use already with several schools taking part. Inspiring interest in STEM subjects through this open source engineering project, resources have been created to encourage teamwork and creativity. KS3 pupils in teams of up to four, have been using the blank areas on the sheet to make drawings of their design thinking. Information printed on the sheet is used in conjunction with a range of different design briefs.

Bloodhound SSC / IMechE

The Institution of Mechanical Engineers are sponsoring the BLOODHOUND SSC Education Programme with two new Foldedsheet resources: the Engineering Design sheet and the Activity sheet. The Education Programme are developing these sheets for schools working in STEM subjects at KS2 and KS3, and young people interested in science, technology, engineering and maths. The Engineering Design sheet encourages small groups working in classroom teams to solve design briefs set by the Bloodhound Project, and the Activity sheet encourages younger individuals to discover facts about the Bloodhound engineering at various events.

Kids In Museums Telegraph Award 2012

Today, Haslemere Educational Museum was announced as the winner of the Telegraph Family Friendly Museum Award 2012. In addition to a shiny plaque recognising their achievements, they also receive a box of 125 of our Storyboard sheets – which they intend to use for one of their family history events this year! We have just produced an exhibition publication with Fieldwork Folio – the large-scale mapping project uses our Foldedsheet poster format. The publication documents a series of journeys using the Saxon Shore Way in Kent.

TS Hazard event

Artist Luce Choules, working with the Faversham Sea Cadets, used a Giant Foldedsheet to map part of the Saxon Shore Way around Faversham Creek. The drawing part of the map is complete, but the whole map is a work in progress. The cadets documented parts of the SS Way using photography to capture points of interest along the creek. They will add more of their photographs over the coming months to fill the sheet during their 70th year anniversary celebrations. The map formed part of the exhibition ‘Tide′ at Creek Creative, Faversham in March 2012.

We have just produced a double-sided full-colour sheet for explorer Alastair Humphreys – he may be a well-seasoned traveller, but this is the first mappazine Alastair has commissioned…

There Are Other Rivers: One Day on the Road/On Foot in India is a photographic journey interspersed with insights and thoughts. Alastair Humphreys walked across southern India, following a holy river from the ocean to its source and then down to the other coast. Travelling alone, immersing himself in fresh experiences, the adventure provided time to reflect on his long fascination with the open road. Humphreys explores two different themes: the allure of difficult journeys and the repeating rhythm of each individual day.
